“COMMIT YOUR WORKS TO THE LORD…” What A Difference It Made When I Began Practicing It!

Commit your works to the Lord,
And your thoughts will be established. Proverbs 16:3

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass. Psalms 37:5

When I began doing what these Bible verses say and it became my way of life, it was such a delightful surprise to see what a big difference it made in my life! First, I avoided some very big mistakes only because of this. In addition, my aspirations to achieve goals and realize my vision were blessed all along and, ultimately, they were crowned with success. Honestly, the journey of achieving goals and fulfilling plans becomes simply amazing when, before you begin to take any action, you bring your vision and your plans in prayer before God. It all goes very differently when the Lord becomes a collaborator/partner in what you do.

When I think of it, you know what comes to my mind? My biggest decisions, which highly impacted my life and even directed my destiny and career, were born in the prayer, reading the Bible, or inspirational books. And, they were the best decisions I have made!

Once, at the beginning of my journey learning to live by faith, I found myself in a very difficult situation, and I had to make a decision between two choices. There was a fierce battle between the logic calculation and my inner feelings. Mixed up in my thoughts, calculations, and feelings, I didn’t even know which choice was better, and I made a choice that seemed logical based on the facts. But there was no peace inside. Anxiety wouldn’t leave me even for a moment. My friend, after hearing about my situation, my thoughts and feelings, said: “Inga, never make decisions based on fear. Fear is your enemy. Do what gives you inner peace.” At that moment it seemed as though my eyes were opened! I recognized the Lord spoke to me through my girlfriend because I myself was too mixed up to know what to do.

That evening, I asked the Lord to help me deal with this situation. I asked him to direct my heart and thoughts and give me inner peace for the decision that I must make. The next day, to my surprise, I had a supernatural peace within for a choice, which I initially rejected. But this decision was against my aspirations and my dreams! It seemed that by making this choice, I would make it only worse for myself. It was not easy. I had to either go by my understanding and calculations or trust the Lord. Realizing that the Lord directed me just as I asked Him to, I decided to fully trust the Lord and surrender. Holding on to my faith that He could restore what was destroyed and create new opportunities where there were none, I completely changed my previous plans and did what the Lord directed me to do.

After one prayer, the Lord radically changed my decision! This decision literally changed the course of my life, and it turned out to be a much better one than what I originally intended to do. God really created the opportunity where seemed none and created new circumstances in replacement of what was destroyed. Later I saw that I would have made a huge mistake if I had followed through with the original decision, even though at that time it seemed the most logical and best choice.

Since then, whenever I wanted to implement my plans or achieve any goals, before doing anything I brought it in prayer before the Lord to receive His direction and a blessing. When I needed to make a decision, I would make my choice based not on my personal calculations, fears or doubts of “What if …”, but by His word (God will not bless that which contradicts His word), as well as by the inner peace that I received after the prayer. I asked the Lord to direct my heart and thoughts to what His will is for my life. When I had a vision of something that I wanted to realize in my life, I asked Him to help me accomplish it. When I had specific plans for something, I asked the Lord to give me the wisdom and knowledge of how to successfully implement those plans. I asked Him to send me people who would help me. I asked Him to bless my efforts so that I could successfully achieve my goals.

And, I am so grateful that I started doing this! The Lord always answered and guided me. Frankly, I avoided even more mistakes only because I prayed about it before doing anything, and after the prayer, my decision changed. In addition, my plans were successfully implemented, and often it seemed that some invisible power was lining up favorable circumstances, connected me with the right people and helped me to achieve successful results. My life really became much easier and better when I started practicing these scriptures!

God is faithful to His word. I’m sure you’ll see a big difference in your life if these verses become part of your lifestyle and where you begin fulfilling your plans.

Commit your works to the Lord,
And your thoughts will be established. Proverbs 16:3

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass. Psalms 37:5

Peace and blessings to you! ~ Inga

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE FAITH? HOW CAN YOU SURRENDER YOUR PROBLEMS TO GOD WHOM YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE FAITH? HOW CAN YOU SURRENDER YOUR PROBLEMS TO GOD WHOM YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN?

By faith. Faith is the key that opens the door. Faith is the bridge that connects us to God. Faith is what brings answers to our prayers. As a car without gas will not go anywhere, so a prayer without faith will not bear fruit.

I attended church for several years and heard many sermons about faith, but I learned to have unshakable faith only after a car accident, when I began to change my way of thinking and decided to rely on God and act based on my faith.

When I lost almost half of my body in a car accident, I found myself in a total despair. My family and friends showered me with unconditional love, but there was a dark hopelessness when it came to my future. Since my home city did not have any wheelchair access, losing my legs meant losing my independence and my life. At that point, I had no other choice but to have the faith like a child that God could do the impossible, and I began to live by faith. That’s when I began putting my faith into practice. My faith grew when I did not just hear or read about it, but when I began thinking and acting according to my faith. And I started seeing how the answers to my prayers were being fulfilled in an absolutely incredible way.

One of the highest values I have gained through hopelessness and difficulties is that they taught me to trust God and rely on Him more than on anything else, and therefore my faith has become stronger than ever before.

Now I accept every difficult situation as an opportunity to see the power of God and experience how He arranges everything in a precise order and timeline.

This week I am inspired to share one of my last testimonies and talk about faith. This testimony is connected with other testimonies that I have had over the years, which show how, according to my faith, the Lord has provided what I needed and when I needed it. Since I lost my legs in a car accident, I need to move in a wheelchair. Electric wheelchairs in the United States cost from $3,000 to $10,000 and even up to $30,000, and this is how the Lord took care of this need when I did not have that kind of money to buy a wheelchair and did not have medical insurance to obtain it. We recorded a video when this testimony took place; watch the video!

This video is about only one aspect of my life. Throughout the years, the Lord provided and took care of me in every aspect of my life. When 14 years ago I decided to leave my home country of Lithuania and fly to California to establish my life in the USA, people asked me how I would be able independently move around in the city in a manual wheelchair (it’s very hard when you can operate only with one hand), where I would live, where I would work, and in general, how I would survive there while my family is across the globe in Europe. I did not have answers to any of those questions. I said, “I will know the answers when I am already there.” I trusted that the Lord would provide everything I needed.

Many say “you are so brave,” but the truth is that it’s not that I am just naturally brave. My courage comes from fully trusting God. I relied on Him having absolutely no doubts. My mindset was not “I will see IF I can establish my life there” but “I will see HOW I can.”

I did not hope. I knew.

For many years, the Lord took care of me in an amazing way. In addition to my physical limitations, I also had no place to live, no money, no work, and no guarantees at all to establish my life in the USA, and I was never homeless, I’ve never had to look for work and I’ve never had the lack of what I needed; everything came to me at the time when it was needed.  I was always surrounded by wonderful people and my friends’ circle rapidly grew. When I needed assistance with getting a ride or any other need, people graciously offered their help.

Also, I’ve never lost my job, even when in 2008 the USA had suffered a big economic crisis and countless people were losing their jobs and homes. It seemed that economic crisis like a tornado was sweeping everything it found on its way and it passed by me and never came even close to me. The Lord protected me from any disease, flu epidemics or harm.

My life is full of examples when various situations were solved inexplicably. Maybe someone will say “this is a coincidence,” but there are no such incredible coincidences, and there are so many of them that then I can say that my whole life is a great coincidence. I am confident that our faith creates these so-called random coincidences.

Our prayer and unwavering faith is a great power that can do the impossible. I completely trusted my God, was unshakable in faith and waited for the answer, even when it seemed that circumstances were absolutely hopeless. Of course, I did not sit idly just dreaming about a good life. I always persevered, made relentless efforts and worked hard to achieve my goals. But it is my God who has given me the inner strength, wisdom, favorable circumstances and the ability to create the life that I have now.

I have tears of joy in my eyes while I write this for you. Heavenly Father cares for those who believe in Him.

 Mark 9:23: Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

Philippians 4:6: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

The Lord knows it all. He knows what is necessary for you. He knows the deepest pain of your heart. He knows your every thought. He comes on time and He is never late. Only we need to have unshakable faith and trust / rely on the Lord.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE UNWAVERING FAITH AND TRUST THE LORD?

 I could never understand what it meant to trust God until I found myself in a hopeless situation, and instead of succumbing to fear, doubt and depression, I decided to trust God with all my essence – with my heart and my mind. No matter what the real facts were around me, and what people told me, I still hoped for God to deliver me out of despair. I counted on God, as a child relies on his dad. It was a conscious decision to trust in the Lord. And I waited and expected for His response, no matter what.

As I was anticipating for the answer from the Lord, I began paying attention to how I felt and what was happening in my life after my prayers. And, I began to notice the change. Sometimes I was inspired to do something and acted upon my inspiration, and it led me to new opportunities. Sometimes other people influenced my situation and it created new circumstances and possibilities. Every change had its own sequence of actions and events, but the fact was right before me and I couldn’t deny it – I began seeing answers to my prayers! As it’s written in Psalm 37:3 “…Feed on His faithfulness,” I held in my heart how He would answer my requests and blessed me, my faith grew and I began being confident in the Lord more and more. Thus, I have learned to trust the Lord. With time my faith was developing. And no matter what circumstances I was going through, the Lord was always faithful. My confidence in the Lord never failed me.

Faith in God is not some superficial thoughts of some mystical power called God, who is somewhere high up looking at everyone and, perhaps, will help, or maybe not. The prayer of faith is not a superficial prayer as a mere ritual, while you are full of doubt, fear or anticipation of something bad to happen. Many have such faith, but it doesn’t do any good and such prayer does not bring any changes. In fact, quite often opposite happens – you get what you’re afraid of, as it’s written in Psalm 37: 8 “…Do not fret – it only causes harm.”

Trust in God is a mindset of the full confidence in the Lord allowing no doubt, no matter what is actually going on around you. Trusting the Lord / confidence in the Lord is an inner state of complete peace and confidence that your God will take care of you.

Faith is a certain way of thinking when you have a clear conscious understanding that our physical realm depends on the spiritual realm, and when you bring your need to God in the name of Jesus, there are changes in the spiritual world, and it will be manifested in the physical world.

Prayer is not a superficial ritual for you to feel better. Prayer of faith in the name of Jesus Christ has the power to change you and your circumstances.

There is a big difference between “Believe that God exists” and “Trust the Lord.” In other words, believing that God exists and trusting God/relying on Him, are two completely different things. When you have a close person in your life, who loves you very much, and whom you trust completely, and who you can rely on – what does it feel like when it comes to your connection with this person, what are your expectations from this relationship? You know that you can always count on this person, right? It’s the same with trusting God. It’s when you not only believe that God exists, but you count on Him, even if you do not see Him. To trust God is a choice. It’s a decision. And you can trust Him, because He does not change, He is faithful to his word.

FAITH IS AN ABSOLUTE CONFIDENCE

Many people are very quick to give up on their faith in God when, after the prayer, they do not get the answer they want. They come to the conclusion that God does not hear, does not answer, and that generally it’s pointless to pray at all, because prayer does not make any changes.

Many prefer not to hope too much so they don’t get disappointed if this does not happen. For many years I also had this kind of a mindset, because disappointments are very painful. But I learned that by doubting I can become my own enemy! We must make efforts to resist thoughts of doubts and anxieties and hold on tight to faith, because our doubts can jeopardize our ability to receive the answer to our prayer.

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. ”(James 1: 6-7)

Faith is not “I hope so …” and it is not “Well, maybe… we’ll see …” And faith has nothing to do with “If …” or how realistic it is to have what we pray for.

 Faith is the absolute certainty that the Lord will give the answer, no matter what the situation is.

Faith is an inner knowledge and, finally, an absolute conviction, when you can say to yourself without a doubt: “It doesn’t matter that I have no idea how this can be solved.

But I know that my God is powerful, nothing is impossible for Him, and He will take care of everything.”

EXPECT FOR THE ANSWER

Just believing and believing with expectation are two different things. Faith with expectation is when you are absolutely sure that you will receive the answer, and this is just a matter of time. Since you do not know when this will happen, you expect a response any day, any time.

  Suppose you believe that your friends or family members will come to visit you at some point. But how would you feel if they told you that they have bought tickets already, and everything is ready for the trip, but they won’t say when they will come, because they want to surprise you? You will not only believe that they will come, but you will also expect their arrival, because they can call you on any day and say: “We are already in your city, see you soon!”

When you live in expectation, your faith moves to another level.

This is the faith that brought incredible answers into my life.

Be strong. Be steadfast in faith. Those who trust in the Lord will not be ashamed!

SYMPHONY OF LIFE

When I woke up in the Intensive Care Unit hooked up to a life support machine, missing my legs and severely broken body, I knew my life would never be the same. When I returned home and faced the devastation of what this crash brought me to, it felt as though every part of my being wailed begging someone to tell me that what I was experiencing was not true. When people learned about the tragedy, I kept hearing their thoughts – the car accident broke my destiny.

But I could not accept it. And I refused to agree with it! I told them that my destiny would be the way I wanted it, and not how this crash planned it. I would break limitations, break through those obstacles and create a new life. I trusted that with God nothing is impossible, no matter how hopeless it seemed.

Today I praise my God for the inner strength and His blessing – my life has completely transformed! I could not even dream of how the Lord blessed my new life. Rejoicing at this, I want to reach your heart and ignite hope.

Please hear me, it’s not the hurt or betrayals that broke into your life or the devastation that you faced what ultimately will create your destiny. But, it’s God’s will for your life and your choices what you do with all that happened will have the last say about your destiny.

You are the conductor of a symphony called Life. God gave us the notes and the instruction on how to create a beautiful melody. He also gave us the freedom of a choice what we are going to do with those notes and instructions. Now, it’s our personal choices that will create a melody of our lives’ symphony.

Our choices…
• To believe and not to believe

• To follow God’s instructions and a choice not to (in other words to improvise your symphony)

• People with whom we choose to spend our time and have friendships or, who we choose to be our second-half

• To stop our certain activities or end relations with someone before it’s too late and a choice not to do anything about it

• What we do with the time given to us. Will we use the time to achieve something or will we waste it?

• To take advantage of opportunities and a choice to let them pass by us

• To fight for our happiness and a choice to go with a flow and remain idle

• To be a victim and blame someone/something for our unhappiness and a choice to accept the responsibility and be determined to create the life that we desire no matter what

• To listen to the fear or possible disappointment and a choice to trust and take that chance

• To listen to the inspiration and act on it and a choice to push it aside and do nothing

• To make an effort and a choice to do what’s easier

• To be committed and persevere and a choice to quit when your motivation fades away and it becomes difficult

• To love, to forgive and a choice to hold on to your bitterness

• To help someone and a choice to ignore

• To never give up and be unstoppable no matter how hard it gets, and a choice to give up

All these choices… By making your choices you conduct your symphony called Your Life. By sharing my experiences in my book and every time I speak, I want to inspire you to be careful and thoughtful when you make your choices. I don’t have all the answers to many questions about destiny. But what I do know is that our own daily choices and decisions create subsequent events and ultimately direct our destiny.

Sometimes one choice – one single decision – can literally direct our life journey in one or another direction. Also, consistent choices we make compounded over time deliver their results as well. They may seem insignificant because at the time they make no radical difference in your life. They may not even appear like choices. But they are. And, those little choices repeated on a continuous basis over time soon will deliver their results. Every time we decide to do or not to do something is a choice.

We stand at the crossroads many times in life. They might not even feel like crossroads; yet, they are, because by making a decision we go to the left or to the right. Therefore, before you make those choices or make a decision, ask yourself where your choice will bring you ultimately.

There are many things I don’t understand about God. And I do not claim to understand everything in the Bible. But I know the Lord and He knows me. I’ve learned that our destiny will greatly depend on whether we choose life in obedience before the Lord God or life according to our own lusts, desires, and ways. What I do know is that living in a righteous way before the Lord God and trusting Him wholeheartedly at all times is going to bring a much more secure, fulfilling and purposeful life.

Deuteronomy 30: 19-20: “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.”

We all have choices, and we are going to have what we choose. So, I invite you to take a deep breath with me. Choose life! Let’s continue on creating the lives that the Lord has called us to live.
Life is not a rehearsal. You get to do it only once.

Always remember, it’s not what people do to you or what happens to you that ultimately will create your destiny. It’s God’s will for your life and your personal choices what you are going to do with all that happens what will create your life’s symphony.
Make it beautiful!

Who Will Design Your 2019?

Happy New Year!

As we begin a new year, we all are determined and enthusiastic and hoping this year will be a better year. And then, we get into a routine of daily to-dos, challenges, problems…

Who will end up designing your 2019? Random outside events? …Or YOU?

If you won’t be in charge of how your days go and which direction your year will take, then random events and circumstances will be in charge of your year. You will end up just reacting to whatever happens in your life.

You know, for many years I thought that my life depended on what my circumstances allowed me to do and to experience. I did not really have any aspirations, and I didn’t even think about any goals. I did not even have the concept of having a vision of what I wanted to achieve and deliberately creating what I wanted in my life. My understanding was that my life just depends on whatever happens on a day-to-day basis. With that mindset, I was going nowhere, only daily reacting to random events and the outside world’s impact on my life.

I lived this way until I got into the car accident and my life was brutally changed. Only then I learned that there is another way to live – you can design your life. You can set your mind on what you want to accomplish in your life and deliberately begin fulfilling it. I didn’t know then that this is what I was going to do. I just despised what the crash has created and I deliberately began changing my circumstances. I did what I had never done – I decided what I wanted in order to feel happy, set goals that would lead me to my vision and began living with intention. With time, by achieving one goal after another, I totally changed my life.

Now I know – Life is what you make it. And it begins with your awareness and decision to live with intention.

Don’t allow random outside events to design your year! YOU take the lead.

How? First, ask yourself what you really want.

  • What would make your year meaningful and purposeful?
  • What needs to happen for you to feel confident, truly happy and content?
  • What needs to change so you feel better about yourself and your life?
  • Is there anything you would like to do, to learn or challenge yourself and achieve?
  • What would make your life exciting and fulfilling?
  • What do you think the Lord wants you to fulfill?

Once you know exactly what you want, make a strategy how you’re going to make it happen. What are the possible ways to achieve it? What goals would bring you to your vision? You might say it’s impossible. But please hear me. I’ve been there. The life that I get to live today is not a mere coincidence nor am I just a lucky one. I deliberately aimed for it. And when I started planning how to change my circumstances and restore my life after the car accident, it was hard to even consider that my vision was possible. I was advised many times to think realistically – what I wanted was simply not possible. All circumstances were against me. Everywhere I looked there were tremendous difficulties and unchangeable obstacles in front of me.

But I knew that with God’s help I could change those circumstances. And indeed, when my efforts seemed powerless, the Lord stepped in and in the most incredible way, He arranged favorable situations, connected me with people who were willing to help me, and He created new opportunities where there seemed none. It was unbelievable! What you can’t do the Lord will. Just trust Him. Those who trust in the Lord will never be ashamed. But you need to be bold and step out of your comfort zone and design your year by living on purpose.

Live with intention every day. Always keep in mind where you are headed and be consistent in your efforts to achieve your aspiration. Big changes don’t happen overnight nor does success suddenly show up as ‘Luck’. It takes time. It takes relentless work. It’s your daily choices to make the effort and consistent actions compounded will deliver the successful result.

Please understand – you are the author of your life story. Your year and your life are in your hands, not in the hands of your circumstances or random outside events. With God’s help, you can have an incredible life.

Live with intention.  Make your 2019 an extraordinary year!

How to be Steadfast and Embrace Hardships?

It is not that easy to be thankful in difficult times, is it? We might feel perplexed, frustrated and angry when things don’t go the way we want them to, right? Feeling lost and anxious we may ask “God, where are you? Why are You slow to help me?”

Inga_1

Over the 25 years of my faith journey, I had encountered quite a few of these situations. Over the many years of my walk with the Lord and my recovery from the adversity after losing nearly half of my body, I have been learning how to have unwavering faith in all circumstances and have a grateful mindset no matter what’s going on in life. It greatly empowered me and I am very eager to share it with others. I will speak about it in the upcoming event “Steady & Thankful in the Midst of the Storm” in San Francisco.
It’s a Free event, click on the link to find out more details:
http://becomingunstoppable.org/upcoming-events/

When I started focusing not on the problem itself and how difficult it was but instead was observing what was behind events and circumstances and where they ultimately brought me, time and time again I got to see a mystery – events that occurred, problems, hardships, people whom I met, circumstances that I didn’t like, not receiving the desired answers to my prayers, and experiences I went through played a critical role in my life, and to my surprise, all of it really worked together for the good, as it’s written in Romans 8:28.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NKJV)
I experience this phenomenon time and time again and today, I have so many testimonies which show that all things work together for good to those who love God and are the called according to His purpose, is really true.

Even though it was not easy to go through those difficulties, they left a valuable imprint on my life. What’s more interesting, the strangest thing was to realize that particularly those events that seemed destructive or seemed like endless hardships, actually brought me to my ultimate dream! The funny thing is that even my mistakes had a great value in my life. In fact, I needed to make those mistakes, because they made changes deep within me and taught me some very valuable lessons which I would not have gained otherwise. Problems, difficulties, pain, and failures to attain some goals, hopelessness, and all that I experienced were for my benefit. Going through hardships and seeing God’s faithfulness at all times, I have learned to get rid of stress, fear, or anxiety. Realizing that the difficulty worked for my good surprised me each and every time. Today I am very grateful for everything.

During the event on Dec 1st (details here: http://becomingunstoppable.org/upcoming-events/)
I have a full program of testimonies and practical knowledge on how to be steadfast no matter what’s going on in your life. But I want to share with you some tips now. You can also read a full blog about it by following the link below, and on my website subscribe to receive my messages.
http://becomingunstoppable.org/…/how-to-be-steady-and-than…/

Before you react to a situation and let negative feelings overpower you, stop yourself. Step back and look at the situation from a different viewpoint. Respond to the situation by controlling what you see. It’s your viewpoint that will determine what it means to you, how you feel about it and what you’re going to do about it. So, it’s critical to be in charge of your mindset and your perspective the way you look at life. Your conscious and unconscious beliefs will lay the foundation for your viewpoint. Pay close attention to your beliefs that come from your culture, religion, your experience or people you respect and trust. The good thing is that we can choose our beliefs. It’s nothing more than what we hold to be true.

Choose your response based on your faith.
How? Think about it – in the Scriptures, reading the book of Job, we clearly see that Satan cannot do more than what God allows him to do in the life of a person who loves God and lives righteously before the Lord. In Matthew 10:29-31 we see that nothing can happen in your life without Father’s will; even hairs on your head are counted. And, If you love God (which means you live according to God’s commandments, John 14:21) and are called according to His purpose, then somehow God will make this work out for your good. (Romans 8:28)

You can shape your viewpoint based on the word of God: whatever is going on is not more than what Father allowed. And if God allowed this situation in your life, so there is some purpose in it. So, instead of becoming anxious and fearful for your future, trust your God. Our faith is tested in difficult times. He’s watching over you. Knowing that it’s not more than what the Lord allowed and there is a purpose behind it, and it all will work out for your good in the end, ask yourself what might be the purpose. What’s the good side of this situation?

Naturally, we tend to focus on the problem and constantly think about how difficult and how painful it is and how much we don’t like it. I encourage you to see the purpose behind it and focus on the possible solution instead of focusing on the problem itself. When you put on sunglasses, what you see doesn’t change but changes how you see it, right? Replace your sunglasses with glasses of faith and look at your circumstances through the eyes of faith.

See, the Lord often allows difficulties and doesn’t make it easier right away because He’s working with our heart, He’s teaching us things we need to learn. Some things can be learned and gained only through difficulties. I experienced that problems, obstacles, and despair are great teachers. At times the Lord tests our faith and our faithfulness. The vessel goes through the molding and the fire before it is used. If you look at what benefit you can find in difficulties, what’s the good side of your difficulty – you will be amazed how much good you will see. In the end, you will be truly thankful for it. I am today.

What about you? Have you experienced difficulties, which you are thankful for?

Until next time,

Inga

What Happens When You Surrender Your Plans To The Lord

Daily duties, jobs, interests, friends, world news, and social media bombard us daily and we don’t even realize that while we consider ourselves living in faith, often we leave our time for the Lord to be the last. We postpone our prayer or reading His word to a later time, to whenever we have a free moment. Unfortunately, the Lord ends up to be the last one who gets our attention. There are so many exciting things around us! And, the Lord is pushed aside, waiting for us to finally have time for Him to hear what He has to say to us.

When I think of it, you know what comes to my mind? My biggest decisions which highly impacted my life and even directed my destiny and career were born in the prayer, reading the Bible, or inspirational books. And, they were the best decisions I have made.

Inga_SFheart

Once, after my prayer to God to direct my heart to that choice which will be better for me, the Lord changed my decision radically. That decision literally changed the course of my life and, it was a much better decision than I first thought of making. Later I saw that I would have made a huge mistake if I proceeded with the initial decision, even if at that time logically thinking it seemed that it was the best choice.

Since then, I began spending more time in the prayer asking the Lord to direct me and guide me. When I needed to make a decision, I would pray for the Lord to give me peace for the choice I needed to make. When I had a vision of something I wanted to implement in my life, I would ask God to direct me and help me to fulfill it if that was His will. When I had specific plans for something, I would ask the Lord to give me wisdom and knowledge on how to fulfill those plans successfully, to send me people who would help me and bless my work so I would successfully achieve my goals. Basically, every time I wanted to fulfill my vision and implement my plans or achieve any goals, I would bring it in my prayer before the Lord asking for His guidance and His blessing.

And, I am so grateful I did! The Lord always answered and directed me which way I needed to go. Truth to be told, I avoided more mistakes only because I prayed about it. In addition, my plans would be fulfilled successfully, often it seemed as though the invisible force was assisting me to achieve successful results.

The Lord says it in His word for us to come to Him with our plans, vision of something we want to implement, or choices that we face so He could direct our thoughts, and decisions and bless us in fulfilling them. My life became so much easier and better once I started practicing these verses from the Scriptures!

Commit your works to the Lord,
And your thoughts will be established. (Proverbs 16:3 NKJV)
~~~
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass. (Psalm 37:5)
The only thing that stands in a way at times is this daily rush to get things done. I was just recently so caught up in everything that was happening in my life, it totally devoured me, and I spent much less time in the prayer talking with the Lord. Even though I saw what was going on, it seemed like I couldn’t get out of that daily whirlwind of nonstop ‘busyness’. One day, the Lord used an acquaintance that called me and during our conversation said to me “The Lord wants you to be close to Him so you get His direction and guidance. You need to be close to Him.” The friend had no idea why he was saying this to me, but I knew. I heard what I needed to hear.
Today I am inspired to share this with you. It’s a noisy world we live in. Where is the Lord in your daily life?
Be well, Inga
7 Steps How to Create the Life You Desire
I wanted to share with you something that might be life changing for you, as it was for me 16 years ago.
As I am getting closer to the day when I step into a new phase in my life, fully devoting myself to my calling and passion to help others overcome and achieve the lives they’re longing to live, this week I wanted to share with you something that might be life changing for you, as it was for me 16 years ago. And then, I have a gift for you – my model “7 Steps Forward”, a roadmap for changing your current circumstances and creating the life you desire.
Time after time I hear people saying “Well, that’s just how my life is.” Their sad eyes reflect their belief that circumstances are stronger than they are and that there is nothing much they could do about it. And, they settle for the life they have even though they are miserable. I still remember the time when I felt trapped by circumstances. I was so deeply depressed that I wished I didn’t even exist. But there was a day when I grasped one thing and that was a turning point in my life. Since then, I began intentionally to take action to change my circumstances, and my story evolved in an amazing way. My life transformed.
If you are not happy how your life goes and you also feel trapped in your current circumstances, this message is for you today.
Inga1
When I decided to start changing my life, I was in a dark and desperate place.  At the age of 22, overnight my life has brutally changed. More about what had happened, you can read in my earlier written “Stay committed to your decision and never, never give up”
At the time, losing nearly half of my body meant losing my life.  At the time Vilnius city was not accessible for people in wheelchairs, and that meant that I no longer could leave my home, go to the city or anywhere. I became literally imprisoned by the walls of my own home. My life turned into a dull and painful existence. The scariest thing was knowing that we couldn’t do anything to change the situation. Losing legs was not like getting a cut on your finger. It was a horrifying agonizing experience of the sudden change. Without me even realizing it, I stepped on a quicksand of deep depression. But, praise the Lord, there was a day when the despair was replaced by hope and a new vision.
I will never forget that beautiful sunny day when I realized that if I did not like how my life was – I could change it. Nothing – no accident, pain, challenges due to my changed physical condition, nor any other problems were going to rule how I felt and how I would continue my life journey.
Those desperate circumstances were created by the event – the car accident. So, if the circumstances and my life’s conditions could be changed by certain events, then by taking the initiative and action I could create a different kind of events and change my circumstances again! I didn’t have to give in and settle for what was created by the crash!
That moment something deep inside of me has shifted. Instead of continuing to live in despair and depression that my life was restricted by circumstances that the crash has created, I realized that there was no limit to what I want to create in my life – by taking an intentional action I could deliberately create circumstances that I desired. And, I believed with God’s help I was going to get out of this horrible place in my life.
I felt strong and determined to change my living conditions. I decided not to waste my time and not to allow the unknown to make me doubt, but take the initiative and start making changes to get myself out of the “dead-end”.
I asked myself what needs to happen, how my life needs to be for me to feel happy again. Then, I asked myself solution-oriented questions, determined my long term and short term goals, and strategized what exactly I needed to do to start the process.
First, I set the goals that helped me gain my independence back on a daily routine, along with the ability to walk wearing artificial legs.  Local prosthetic specialists tried to ensure me that in my physical condition of bilateral above the knee amputee and having one arm paralyzed it was impossible to walk wearing prosthetic legs. At that time I knew that the only way to change circumstances that made me depressed was to walk again so I would be able to get out my home and go to work again. I was ready to break through any obstacles to make it happen. So I told specialists that I would walk and would even dance, and they would see it.
In spite of much advice – to come to terms with a “disabled lifestyle” – I researched online about prosthetic legs worldwide, emailing prosthetic companies. My relentless perseverance to walk again brought me all the way to California, USA. Thanks to an American prosthetic specialist, who believed that my dream was possible and decided to help me, I fulfilled my vow. I walked and even danced, just as I said I would.
Then, a year later I moved across the globe from my family in Lithuania, EU and established my life in the United States even though at the time of my decision I had no place to live, no work, not a lot of money, and even no right to live and work in America. I always held my vision in my mind no matter what was going on in my life, and consistently worked toward my goals. A beautiful dream, which seemed impossible at the time, has become my reality.
Last night, as I was having my time of gratitude to the Lord, in my mind I stepped back and looked at my life from a bigger perspective. Just remembering where I began my journey and where my life is now, I was in awe. How incredibly my life has transformed! How great my God is!
I still remember very well those days when a full dynamic life having my physical limitations seemed impossible. I was told many times that I was aiming for goals that were simply unrealistic. It did seem like outrageous ambitions and yet, I believed there would come a day when I’d implement my dreams.  And, it’s been over a decade now that I live my dream.
The outrageous ambition is my life today –  I live a dynamic life residing in beautiful California, across the globe from my home country, am self-sufficient, work, build relationships with people, travel even more than I ever did prior the crash. Furthermore, I just fulfilled another impossible goal – published my book “Unstoppable. It’s a Choice”. And now, my eyes are set on another vision – creating my business Becoming Unstoppable, LLC to fulfill my promise to the Lord and help other people break through their hardships and create the lives they’re longing to live. It’s mind-boggling!
Please hear me – you can change your current circumstances if you are not happy with them. Current circumstances were created by your own choices made earlier. The same way, by making different choices and taking action, you can create different circumstances. Maybe you are dealing with some events you could not control. But remember, your life is in your hands, not in the hands of your circumstances. Your choice of what you are going to do about them from now on will determine your future events, and maybe even your destiny. Do not allow them to be in charge. It’s up to you to take charge of your circumstances and your life.
You are the author of your life story. You can pick up a pen and change your next Chapter. You can change it at any time. Even today. Even this moment can be fateful for you if you make the decision to open a new page and start writing in it what you want.
This is your life, your story, and nobody is going to create it for you, except you.
If you ask yourself “OK, but how can I possibly change my life? Where do I begin?”
I want to share with you the model that I personally used to transform my life so you can begin your journey anytime, even today. On the right side of my personal web page find and get “7 Steps Forward” How to Create the Life you Desire, which will be your roadmap.
If at any point you would like me to personally coach you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
And, if you would like more practical tools that could guide you in your journey, I encourage you to read my book“Unstoppable. It’s a Choice” There I included all practical tools how to be strong, how to overcome, break through and achieve.
I hope this will give you a sparkle of hope and challenge your beliefs and expand your vision of what’s possible in your life. Remember, you can begin making changes even today. I will continue sharing messages to inspire and equip you with practical tools.
Meanwhile, be strong. Believe that with God all things are possible. Only you need to take initiative.
What will be your first step?
Inga
The great news is that my book ‘Unstoppable. It’s a Choice’ is now PUBLISHED! I began receiving feedback and reviews from readers. Friends, I don’t know if I am still dreaming or is it really true that my manuscript is an actual book. I must tell you that my road to this moment was long and even painful at times. My seven-year writing journey began when my brother’s cry for help reached me.
In April of 2007, I received a text message from my brother, which shook me to the core of my being. It was very disturbing. I knew something really bad had happened. As I was wondering what I could do to help him, a clear thought came to me “Write him a letter.” It was an inspiration/direction that I needed to write him about my own recovery after the car accident; write about the source of my inner strength and tenacity, how I was able to not give up no matter how hopeless it seemed, and what was behind my successful achievement of goals that others claimed to be impossible. Even though my brother was by my side for many years and watched me making decisions and working toward my goals, he never knew the reasons behind my relentless perseverance, which ultimately brought me to the life that seemed impossible to ever attain. And now, I was inspired to tell it all to help my brother not to give up and recover from his own adversity.
I never considered I could write well. But my love for my brother and urging feeling that I needed to do that won my insecurity. So I got on my computer and wrote him a long open conversation from my heart. My brother responded very positively to my offer to write him letters and asked me to keep writing. So I did. After a while, brother opened up to me that he was in such dark hopeless place that he didn’t see the way out. Even thoughts of suicide began coming to him with persistence. But now, he got out of hopelessness and had the hope and direction in life. “My little son still has his daddy alive because of your letters, Inga. Continue writing and publish a book to help other people,” he added.
I never thought I could write a book. But, I decided to write and publish it, just as brother encouraged me. I believed if this saves the life of at least one more person, if it makes a difference to someone else, it will be all worth it. I did not have the editor nor did I have the money to publish it. But, I believed it all would come when it’s time to publish it; I just needed to do the work – write it. So, I began working on it using every free time-frame to write. There were many difficulties and obstacles to complete this book and publish it. It was a long seven-year consistent and relentless work to bring this book into existence.  And indeed, when the manuscript for the book was complete, everything necessary for the book to be published came – everything came at the same time. It’s just incredible how the Lord provided!
It turned out that when I was ready to edit the manuscript and was wondering where I could find a good professional editor, at that time the company where I work at as a Public Relations person, hired a temporary contractor for certain project. And, to my surprise, Bob was a seasoned professional editor and has worked with the former President of the U.S. and other known public figures and companies. Shortly after his arrival, Bob agreed to edit my book once the funds arrive.
I needed $10.000 to cover editing and publishing expenses, and I had no idea where I could get the funds from. So, in my prayer I brought my need before the Lord, asking Him to help me with funding if it’s the right time for me to publish this book. Few weeks since the prayer, I met for lunch with an acquaintance of mine, who after hearing my updates on the book, a week later handed me an envelope with a check for $10.000 saying “I know this money belongs to your Unstoppable. Go ahead, edit it and publish it to bring it to the world.”
The Lord doesn’t stop astounding me! And, He showed it again – all things are possible for Him. Circumstances, money, people’s hearts… everything is in God’s hands. What is required of us is obedience to His voice and faithfulness to the work that He entrusts us to do. And the rest… whatever seems impossible becomes very possible when the Lord provides.
I put all my heart into this work. I wrote it with love and much care, revealing my true story. Beginning with the story of my car crash, I share how difficult the recovery process was after losing my legs and the use of my left arm. I share what gave me hope and determination to restore my life. Going against circumstances and opinions of others, I aimed for goals that seemed beyond my grasp. Finally, I traveled independently from Europe to the U.S. to implement my dream. The narrative is intertwined with a love story that brought me even more emotional anguish than the car accident. At that point, I felt totally broken and no longer had I the strength or desire to fight for my life. But, I had to ask myself whether I was going to allow other people’s choices to break me and my destiny. I made the choice to get up and continue on. With the Lord’s help, I picked myself up, returned to the US and continued pursuing the life I desired to live.
While I was writing this book, I saw how my decisions not to give up and be unstoppable in my pursuit totally transformed those tragedies and hardships that I faced. It really shows that it’s not what happens to us and not other people’s choices determine our future, but our decision what we’re going to do with it all that ultimately determines our destiny. The entire book shows the power of our decisions that are made by us, once we stand at the crossroads of a choice.
The book includes my real letters to my bother, which are written in a coaching style. So while sharing my story, I coach the reader, who is facing any type of difficulties and desires to improve his or her life.
Be it a life-altering adversity in your life, or this monster called depression, obstacles that make your goals hard to reach, bad decisions in the past or any hardships that you face, reading the book you will find a roadmap how to trust the Lord in the midst of troubles, how to overcome depression and thrive again, how to break through hardships, overcome obstacles and achieve any goals, ultimately creating the life you desire.
My hope and aim for this book are to inspire, encourage, ignite faith, and give practical knowledge that will equip the reader to overcome and succeed.
Some of the reviews can be found on my website http://becomingunstoppable.org/about-the-book/reviews/
The book is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, GoodReads.
Now that my book is published, I follow my calling and purpose to fulfill my promise to God which I made 17 years ago, and reach out my hand to those who are struggling and going through hardships, who desire to improve their lives but don’t know how, who experienced adversity and need to recover from pain and continue on.
I and my friend and Associate Anzhelika Polyak (another Lithuanian, whom I met in San Francisco in one of the events where I was a guest speaker at the Christian Church)  are establishing a company ‘Becoming Unstoppable’, which has a mission to make a difference in people’s lives by bringing the message of hope, sharing a personal testimony of the living God’s power to restore the broken and turn the impossible into possible. Along with the message about faith, Becoming Unstoppable shares practical guidance and self-management strategies/tools to empower people to keep on going and break through any circumstances to create the lives they’re longing to have.
Since my car accident, I have done a number of public speaking engagements and interviews in Lithuania and in the United States for TV programs, radio and publications for inspirational purposes and I am looking forward to continuing sharing my message.
If you would be interested in having me as a guest speaker, please connect with me.
I can be reached via Admin@BecomingUnstoppable.org, or my information can be found on the website www.BecomingUnstoppable.org
These are my updates. I hope, reading my message you were encouraged.
By for now, hope to see you on the Becoming Unstoppable!
How to be Resilient, How to Recover from the Adversity? Step 3. Your Focus.
How to be Resilient, How to Recover from the Adversity? Step 3. Your Focus.
Focus on what you have and what you can do. Focus on the solution, not the problem.
After the affliction or generally during hardships, it is crucial to be aware of your thought patterns, what you are focused on. Naturally, we grieve and are longing for that which was lost. And yes, we do need that time to grieve. It is important though not to stay there longer than we need. At some point, it’s imperative for the focus to be shifted away from the tragedy to the newness, from the problem to the solution, from the limitations to abilities and opportunities. What you focus on will have a significant impact on your journey to recovery.
While we’re going through a hardship, normally we don’t think about what’s far ahead because we are focused on what’s going on at the moment, how we feel at that time. Would you agree that naturally, we think about the problem, often focused on analyzing how difficult it is rather on our ultimate destination?
But it is imperative to keep our ultimate destination in mind, not the problem. How many times have you heard sayings like, “I got bombarded by so many problems that I didn’t have the energy to continue,” or, “The challenges I encountered were too much to bear,” or, “I got so tired that I just couldn’t do this anymore.” And you find out that they gave up on something they were just recently passionate about. There might be different reasons why they gave up on their pursuit, but overall it all comes to the same point: their difficulty overpowered them. For the most part – because they put so much attention to how difficult it was – more attention was paid to the challenge than on the ultimate goal. When we face any difficult situation, what will determine what’s next is:
  • How you are going to look at the situation (choosing the perspective),
  • What you are going to focus on, and,
  • What you are going to do about it.
I believe putting your focus on the wrong aspect of the situation is one of the fastest roads toward failure. It’s very easy to give up when you focus on the obstacle or difficulty you are facing. Why? I am sure you have noticed in your life – the more you think about the bad situation and how difficult and painful it is, the worse it seems. Negative thoughts become more and more dominant and darker, and your problem snowballs into something bigger and more challenging. It reaches the point to where it seems irresolvable and you might say to yourself, “I can’t do this.” And here you are, you have arrived at a different destination that you first intended to.
I want to share an excerpt from my upcoming book “Unstoppable. It’s a Choice”, one of those special moments that set a direction of my journey of recovery.
“I don’t remember exactly when this happened, but it was soon after this marveling revelation. One day my mom and I were walking outside enjoying the beautiful spring day and we saw a young guy in an electric wheelchair, sitting alone, enjoying the weather as we were. We walked up to him to chat. He was approximately my age and he was completely paralyzed up to his neck. He was not able to use his legs or his arms and he had a hard time speaking. Like mine, his life had changed in a heartbeat when he got beaten up by a gang, resulting in total and permanent paralysis. This young and handsome guy was sitting in a wheelchair with no ability to move his body, even having difficulty speaking. Were that not enough, his family had abandoned him, forcing him to stay at various Rehab Centers and nursing homes, all the while being taken care of by strangers. As he was sharing his story, a thought came to my mind “See? You could’ve been in his place. That is what Rose was talking about.”
That moment it seemed as though the entire world has stopped. Suddenly, the astonishment of my new revelation of how well it ended for me overshadowed the horror of my loss. “I am so blessed! In addition to the miracle of not breaking my neck, though I had a strong head injury, I can think clearly, I can express myself easily, and I can move!”
I wanted to shout out with happiness. It seemed like my eyes were opened and I saw with clarity how fortunate I was. While talking with the young man, my mind was captured by the astonishing facts of my blessings. All I felt was gratitude. After we ended our conversation, my mom and I continued walking toward the lake. I was completely astounded with what I had just realized.
“Wait a minute,” I thought. “I have a clear mind and I can communicate. And while I do not remember many things due to the brain injury, I can think and express myself the way I did prior to the accident. I still have my right arm functioning. What if I still can be independent? I could learn how to do things with one arm, and then I could take care of myself independently. I can move my body freely, so I will walk again wearing prosthetic legs. I won’t really have to depend on others. My body is not the same anymore, but I am still able to use what I have left. I will do everything in a way that I can. The important part is that I can! I am blessed that it ended the way it did. I will come back to life.”
I was so consumed by my sudden realization that I didn’t hear what mom was saying. And as I was having this inner dialogue, I felt how everything was changing within the core of my being, specifically in what I noticed and how I perceived my situation. Instead of looking at my losses and limitations, I saw how much I actually was able to do.
Instead of despair, I felt enlightenment. It felt as though with every breath, I was gaining the hope that I would have a way out of this hopeless place in my life. As I was being rolled in the wheelchair through the forest, in my mind I was building a strategic plan to end this rolling in the wheelchair business to bring myself back to life. “
The time in a Rehab Center was the most painful and difficult time I can remember. But, it was a pivotal time.  The realization that I have so much to be thankful and how much I was able to do, transformed the way I saw my new life and the way I felt about it. I understood that my life experience will greatly depend on what I focus on. Since then, I began changing my thinking.
Instead of thinking that I no longer was able to do something because I did not have my legs and could not use my left arm, I looked from a different angle – I can think clearly, I can move my body and I still can use my right arm – there must be a way for me to be self-sufficient, how can I use what I have to achieve what I desire? I focused on the opportunities and possibilities rather than what was destroyed in my life and how many doors were shut because of my physical limitations. Instead of dwelling on how I no longer could go out of my home and do the work that I used to be able to, I looked from a different angle – what are the possibilities for me to go out of my home, how could I manage things independently, and what kind of work I could do in my situation? And then, while focusing on my abilities and opportunities, I was seeking for the solution to build my future rather than dwelling on the problem and grieving about what’s no longer there.
Imagine a race with hurdles. When an athlete runs close to the hurdle (obstacle), he jumps over it and continues to run. When he gets close to the next hurdle – he overcomes this as well and races until he reaches the finish line. The interesting thing is that while the runner sees every hurdle ahead, his eyes are not on the next hurdle, but where the finish line is. His focus is the destination, not obstacles on the way. I know this because I used to be an athletic runner when I was a teenager. We were taught not to focus on the hurdle, but always to focus ahead where the race was ending. Why? Focusing on the hurdle most of the time resulted in the failure to overcome it, and the chances of winning were reduced. The major focus was the final destination; hurdles were just obstacles along the way which we needed to overcome and continue on running no matter what until we reached the finish line.
That’s the mindset I had when aiming for my goal. My eyes were set on my ultimate goal where I was going, and difficulties were something I needed to overcome so I could continue my race until I reach my final destination. Obstacles are there to be overcome, and not something that could stop me.
Now I see that I unconsciously had the same thought pattern every time:
  • During difficult times, I never focused on hardships, no matter how difficult or painful they were.
  • My mental eyes were always directed toward my final destination.
  • The immediate focus was on the work I had to do to attain my goal.
It’s one of the most important key points in self-management that played a major role in my ability to break through the obstacles or handle hardships when it felt unbearable.
Now, after a while, I can see that such mindset, by concentrating not on the problem but on its solution, strongly and consistently moved me forward. Managing my focus empowered me to aim and achieve goals that others said were unattainable for me. And then, this skill empowered me to move across the globe from my family and establish my life in the United States even though at the time of my decision I had no place to live, no work, not a lot of money, and even no right to live and work in America.
If I had looked at those challenging situations as if they were insolvable problems and focused on how difficult it was, I know I would have been stuck and it would have taken much longer to achieve my goals. In fact, most likely I would not have reached them at all. If I had focused on my limitations, what I have lost and what I could not do anymore, my life would be miserable. In comparison, focusing on my abilities and opportunities and solutions empowered me to attain life’s transformation.
When facing a difficult situation, instead of being worried or stressed out about the problem, begin immediately to focus on the solution. And then, make every effort to solve the problem the best way you can.
In my next message, I will share how to focus on the solution and how to find it.
Meanwhile, be Unstoppable. It’s a Choice.
How to be Resilient, How to Recover from the Adversity? Step 2. Perspective.
How to be Resilient, How to Recover from the Adversity? Step 2. Perspective.
Step2 postEN
Now that I look back and analyze myself what empowered me to recover my life after the devastating crash, I see there were several aspects that worked together intertwined. I talk about my faith a lot because the Lord has given me the strength, tenacity, opportunities, courage, endurance and a blessing in everything I aimed for. I would not have made it without the Lord. But then there are other aspects that I don’t talk much about – besides the Lord’s intervention and His blessing I work with myself a lot. There are several components that helped me to recover from my personal adversity:
  1. God’s blessing and unshakable faith
  2. Self-management
  3. Personal Action and relentless effort to do the best I can do under any circumstances.
Self-management plays a significant role and I want to elaborate on that aspect.  Overcoming deep depression, emerging from hopelessness, breaking through the impossible odds, achieving goals and positive mindset is not a coincidence, but it is a result. Or, in other words, it’s the fruit of my efforts that nobody sees. It’s the result of hard relentless work.
Have you thought about why some people give up and others overcome seemingly insurmountable situations which confront them? Why some people get depressed and give in to circumstances and others refuse to give in and find a way to improve their lives? Is it that some are stronger than others? I don’t think so. I believe that what sets those people apart is their ability to manage themselves.
What is self-management? It is the skill to master your perspective, your thought patterns, your thought focus and your feelings. It’s the ability to manage yourself. When you have the skills necessary to manage your inner state, you will be able to respond to life’s events in a way that empowers you. It is imperative to be able to manage your outlook and your inner state at all times because you make different choices and different decisions depending upon how you view a situation and how you feel at the time your decisions are made. Would you agree that you make different decisions when you feel hopeful, confident, tenacious, strong and determined, and make entirely different decisions when you feel hopeless and helpless, defeated, doubting and pessimistic?
There was a time in my life when I realized that in addition to God’s blessing, my experience greatly depended on how well I managed myself. My biggest eye opener and probably one of the most significant ones was when I realized that my experience about one or another event depended upon how I choose to look at it.
I learned and realized that thoughts and emotions don’t just “happen” to me, leaving me powerless against them. I choose what I think and what I focus on, what meaning I give to the events and what I am going to do about them. Nobody and no event has the power to make me feel in any particular way unless I allow it. I am the one who chooses my response, and that depends on my perspective and my interpretation of what it means to me.
We always in our mind communicate to ourselves what things mean to us, how we feel about occurred events and what we are going to do about it all. When we are doing well, we are excited and think about how thrilled we are that things are going well,  what it took for us to achieve success, and having an even stronger belief of what is possible for us, we move on to another venture. Likewise, in the event of various complex circumstances, we weigh our current situation, ask ourselves why it happened, and make conclusions and decisions for the future. While we are thinking about one or the other situation, we feel certain emotions. It’s easy to see the good side and feel positive emotions when the circumstances are in our favor. But it’s more challenging to feel positive if it’s a painful and difficult event for us.
One of the combining details that affect our inner state and our subsequent decisions is our how we interpret it and how we communicate it to ourselves. Depending on our perspective we will give the meaning to that particular event, and from there follows our emotions and decisions what we are going to do next.
Having the same event, we have a choice of how we will look at it and how we will interpret it.
  • Is this a punishment or is this a lesson for me?
  • Is this a crash or is it just the end of something that will be replaced by something that really needs to take place in my life?
  • Is this an unrecoverable tragedy or is it a test for me?
  • Is this a loss or an opened opportunity to have new and better?
  • Is this a dead end or is it a challenge for me to find a way because I know there must be the way?
  • Is this too much for me to handle or is this opportunity for me to overcome a new challenge and become stronger?
  • Is this a problem or is it a challenge for me to find a way, to improve and create what I want?
Let’s take a very simple example. Let’s say Dave come to work and finds out that he was let go. What is he going to do about it? It greatly depends on his perspective. He can see it as he’s not good enough and they are getting rid of him, it’s a big problem, it’s the end of his security and well-being. How will Dave feel? Most likely he will feel defeated, not needed, self-insecure, stressed, fearful for his future, not confident to look for another well-paid job. But what if this is an opportunity for him to get a better position? What if this door closes, so he would open another door to have a career that he really wants? Maybe this is an opportunity for him to apply for the position that he always dreamed about or maybe even create his own business? How will Dave feel having this perspective? Most likely he will feel having a new beginning, intrigued, excited about the change to a better, opportunity to learn new things and improve, eager to take action, curious, hopeful. Having this kind of perspective will make him feel in a whole different way and a very different behavior than in the first case. A person can have two different perspectives about the same situation and both of them will create totally different outcomes.
Let’s take a gambling game. It is just a game, nothing more.  But how we feel about it depends on how we look at it and what gambling game means to us. We can look at it as a fun time with friends, the excitement of a mystery of what’s going to happen next and a great opportunity to gain an unlimited amount of money with no effort and work.  Also, we can look at it as a waste of time, opening doors to something that can bring a great destruction into our lives and it is just throwing away our money that we can spend on something more meaningful.  It’s all how we look at it will make us feel about that object or any event.
What if we look at circumstances or occurred events as just the facts? The fact itself can’t make us feel in any particular way.  It is just a plain fact same way as an object. It’s how we look at the fact will shape our attitude and our feelings about it. Events, the same way as objects or activities are simply neutral matter and they have both likes and dislikes, depending on what it means to people. Our perspective is the foundation of what meaning we give to the event or any circumstance, and depending on that we will feel about it in a particular way and will choose what we are going to do about it.
Perspective depends greatly on our beliefs. We have a choice to believe that everything that happens in our lives is in God’s control and everything happens for the purpose and for the better. We also may believe that there is no God, life is whatever events happen to us, it’s all about luck and most often life’s not fair. We may believe that with our decisions we can shape our destiny, and we may believe that all life’s events and circumstances are out of our control; therefore, it is meaningless to work hard and make the effort. We may believe that we are not good enough and are not really worthy of love and strong family, and we may choose to believe that everybody is worthy and can have it, so we do as well and we will have it when the right time comes. We may have a belief that we will not succeed anyway because we are not worthy of success or we are simply not as lucky as others, and we can believe that success is not a mere luck but a result of our efforts and we will be blessed and will succeed in everything we aim for.
These are just several examples of general beliefs about God, life, love and us as people, which shape our perspective.  Belief is nothing more than what we are convinced about, which we can choose as well. I cannot stress enough how critical it is to pay attention and choose your belief and perspective.
In order to show it better and make it more real, I will take my own life. The car accident that I was involved in was something that I could have never expected nor was I ready for such drastic event. I was 22 years old, and this event was a major turning point in my life and my family members. The result of that crash was that I lost a person, who I was dating at the time (he was killed), and lost everything that made my life fulfilling.  In addition to losing it all, having multiple injuries and losing both of my legs and having my left arm fully paralyzed, made me totally helpless and not able to take care of myself at all.  From being active, joyous and having strong potential to be successful in life, suddenly I found myself helpless in bed not being able to move or do anything independently, except see, feel and speak a little bit.  My life was changed overnight.
There were many different opinions on why it happened, questions about my destiny and advice what I should do with my life at that point. I have heard people had ideas that God has punished me. Others said probably this was my destiny and I should just accept it. “Such is your fate…he broke your destiny” was a very common conclusion, implying that I needed to accept it and give in because there was nothing I could do to get it all back or make my life better. I also had to hear advice not to try so hard pursuing my dream, because what I wanted was unrealistic. I disagreed with them all and decided to fight for my life because I had a different belief.
Today, one of the things I am most grateful for to my Creator is that from the very beginning I had a positive perspective about what had happened and faith of what my future would be like. I had unshakable belief that my life’s under God’s control and therefore, I will not fear. There was a reason why I got into this crash and also there is a purpose why I survived, even though I was given 30% to live.  I believed there must be a serious reason why this had happened. Even though I didn’t understand many things, but I believed there’s a purpose in everything and Lord was going to restore my life. I didn’t believe that this event happened for me to spend the rest of my life being in regret and depression, watching how my life passes by in sadness and restricted lifestyle.
I decided that I would not be a victim and wouldn’t spend my life continuously thinking about what had happened. I refused to be in self-pity or collect sympathy from others. The decision to restore my life no matter how much effort it would cost fueled me with unbreakable determination. I had a very clear understanding that my destiny was not going to be “broken” because of the event that had happened. I believed I could change my destiny the way I wanted and with God’s help that’s exactly what I was determined to do. I was going to live a full life in spite of my injuries. My understanding about it was so bright and clear, as if I were given a palette of paint, being told that I could draw only black or gray house, and I knew that I could use all the colors I wanted, and paint not only a house, but also blossoming gardens, green trees, colorful flowers, bright yellow sun, blue sky…
I did not know how my situation could possibly resolve to a better, but I knew that I would live well. I completely ignored people’s sayings “Such is your fate…” I did not listen to what anybody said about my position in life and their opinions about my goals that I wanted to achieve. I always had a vision of how I wanted my life to be, believed that it was possible to implement it and did everything I could do to make it become my reality.
I set the goals for myself, which step-by-step transformed my life from not being able to speak, move or do anything independently to traveling from Europe to the United States by myself and building my life all over again. I had a vision that I would live a fully active lifestyle in spite of my injuries, consistently worked toward my goal, and today I get to live my dream that seemed nearly impossible.
Now, after a while, I clearly see that if I also believed that God has punished me, I would have spent the rest of my life in misery, thinking that I would not have anything beautiful in my destiny. If I also had looked at my circumstances “realistically” as many did, I would not have even aimed for goals that I did. If I had agreed with people, who had their own beliefs about destiny and told me that I should just accept what had happened and let it be the way it was because such was my fate – probably I would still be spending my days being stuck at home having no access to a full life. If I believed that we can have only that, which circumstances allow, I still would be imprisoned by the walls of my home, watching how my youth pass by me and all I have is a dull existence.
My belief shaped the perspective that gave me hope and empowered me to take action to change my circumstances and create the life that I envisioned.  My perspective about this event and my future gave a birth to the attitude that I can’t and won’t give up on my life, but will take action to improve everything. My beliefs strengthened and encouraged me that I would succeed. I did not allow my loss to ruin my desire to live a full joyous life. Opposite, my loss gave a birth within to a burning desire to live and aspiration to achieve my dreams. I did not allow my desperate situation to destroy my faith. Opposite, my faith became stronger than it ever was. My adversity revealed to me the values that I never saw before. My belief and attitude made me strong, persistent and unstoppable.
As all of my above examples show, the same situation can have totally different outcomes, depending on which perspective we choose. Some beliefs are unconscious, and they come from people’s backgrounds, religious beliefs, experience, philosophy or other people’s opinions and their experience. We might be surprised how our beliefs are affected by other people’s beliefs or philosophy. Furthermore, based on that we make decisions that shape our lives. But the good thing is that we can change it at any time. If we are aware of our beliefs and our perspective, we can manage it and choose the response that will empower us.
If you believe that God does not give you more than you can cope with and there is a reason for everything, it will give you the confidence that you can manage it, and the solution is ahead of you. It will give you tenacity and encourage you to handle the adversity in the best possible way. After some time you might even see that particularly this difficult situation was for your good because it directed your life path toward your dream, it tested you, developed necessary character traits and gave you more wisdom. To be honest, I was shocked when I realized this in my own life. That’s why I am grateful today for all those hardships.
The quality of your life and your destiny is determined not by the events that take place in your life, but what you do afterward. While you do not have control over other people and a lot of times you do not have control over what happens in your life, you do have a choice of how you look at it all and what you are going to do about it. Depending on your perspective and decision what you are going to do next, you will have subsequent events and this way you shape your destiny.
Therefore, pay close attention to your beliefs and your mindset. What do you believe about the event that is going on right now in your life? What does this mean to you?
Choose wisely. And, Be Strong. Be Determined and Relentless. Be Unstoppable.
Blessings to you, until the next time.
